"My favorite Chinese restaurant around here is Yen Ching and their House Beef is out of this world!  It's a stir fried beef with a sweet, salty, garlic-y, onion-y sauce that they serve over a bed of thinly shredded cabbage.  A friend of mine gave me this recipe a few years ago and I've made it several times since then.  I have to say it's very similar to the original.  I slice the meat at an angle and against the grain.  I use reduced sodium soy sauce and will sometimes add a little extra soy sauce (or even a little water) at the end to thin out the sauce.  The sauce runs over the cabbage and wilts it.  So delicious! "

1 lb. sirloin sliced thinly against the grain
2 eggs
2 T. cornstarch
1 head garlic minced (and no that's not a typo...a whole head of garlic!)
1/4 c. green onions sliced
1/2 t. black pepper
3 T. sugar
4 T. soy sauce

Steps:

  • "Mix eggs and cornstarch together in a medium bowl with 1 T. sesame oil.  Toss with meat.  Heat 1-2 T. vegetable oil in skillet or wok over medium high heat..  Fry meat until cooked through.  Set aside. Wipe pan.  Heat 1 T. sesame oil over medium heat.  Saute garlic and then add green onion. Combine pepper, sugar and soy sauce.  Add to garlic and green onion, along with the meat.  Stir over medium heat until everything is well combined and heated through.  Serve over rice and a bed of thinly sliced cabbage.  "

A perfect mix of salty, sweet, and crunch, this Sweet & Salty Chex Mix recipe delivers up one very tasty snacking treat. Glazed with a mix of brown sugar, honey, and kosher salt, it's a great little nibble for game day munching, lunch box packing, and plain old everyday snacking!

3 c. Corn Chex cereal
2 c. Rice Chex cereal
2 c. mini pretzels
2 c. Cheez-It crackers
1 c. Wheat Chex cereal
1/2 c. unsalted butter, melted
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 T. honey
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 c. Reese's Pieces

Steps:

  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, place Corn Chex, Rice Chex, pretzels, Cheez-Its, and Wheat Chex. Stir gently to combine.
  • In a separate small bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, honey, and kosher salt until well combined and smooth.
  • Pour butter mixture over cereal mixture; stir gently to thoroughly coat. Spread mixture in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake at 300℉ for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
  • Remove pan from oven. Allow to cool completely, about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally and breaking up clumps with your hands.
  • Once cooled, stir in Reese's Pieces.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to about 1 week.
  • Don't skip lining the baking sheet with parchment paper or foil! This stuff gets sticky as it bakes, and lining the pan saves a lot of elbow grease at clean-up time.
  • You can substitute M&Ms for Reese's Pieces, if you'd like.
